The First Foundations...

"The wall was made of jasper, and the city of pure gold, as pure as glass. The foundations of the city walls were decorated with every kind of precious stone. The first foundation was jasper..." If you've never heard what Heaven will look like, check out chapter 21 of Revelation. It will be like nothing we've ever seen, and not just because of what it's made of, but because we will be with God and His son, Jesus Christ.

But back to the first foundations. Although nothing like jasper or precious stone, I'm excited to say that Seth and I now know that the first foundations of our house will be concrete and wood. Yep, last Saturday we signed the contract on our first home! As Brooke would call it, 'Our Married Home':)

Our house will actually not be finished until September, but they will pour the foundation in June. We will keep you posted as it is built, but until then, here's what we have to show you...

I know you can't tell by this picture, but it's going to be beautiful! We are so excited and blessed to have been able to buy a house...I can't wait to live in it with my soon to be husband:) And you are more than welcome to come visit anytime!

The BTB, MOH, and MOBs

In case you're not up on the wedding acronyms, I'd like to bring you up to speed...

Meet my lovely sister, Natalie Sarver, Bride To Be. Natalie and her fiance
John will be getting married this spring and I know they can't wait! They
have been together just over 5 years, and last October John took Natalie to Niagra Falls to ask her to be his wife:) They will live in Carthage, NC, where John has his dream job working for a defense contractor. Natalie, who just graduated from the Nursing School at ECU, is working at Moore County Hospital in the ICU.

Now meet my wonderful mother, Bev Sarver, Mother of the Bride(s).

If I had to describe my mom in 3 words it would be loving, compassionate,

and spunky! I'm so blessed to have her as my mother. She will definitely have her hands full this year, but I know she's so happy for both Natalie and I! Mom and I have very similar personalities (in my opinion) and share a lot of the same interests, such as...drinking coffee, pretty dishes, flowers, stampin' up cards, chocolate, and jingle bells (our beagle).

Come springtime, I will be the Maid of Honor in Natalie's wedding, and this fall she will be my Matron of Honor! I belive at this point we've covered our bases with the wedding acronyms, but I'm sure we'll learn more...

Seth, my Groom To Be, maybe you can give us an update on the MOG, BM and other such Apples...

Feb. 24, 2008 - How it unfolded.

February 24, 2008 – “There will never be another day like today...”

To start at the beginning…last spring Seth and I started to hang out quite frequently and we began to take a few walks at Lake Johnson together. On one specific walk, we sat down on a bench near the dam (this bench is dedicated to Dick O’Conner, who loved Lake Johnson, however, I think it is now unofficially dedicated to Seth and Rebecca) and had a pretty significant talk about our future. Well, to make a long story short, we began dating (for the second time) on May 25, 2007. And that was the new beginning of our relationship and time together….

This morning, Sunday, February 24, 2008, Seth called me at 9:15am to tell me he had just woken up and was going to be late for church. We decided to skip Sunday school and go to a coffee shop to read before going to big church at 11am. Well, at about 9:50 he called to say he had a hard time packing up stuff for the picnic lunch we were to have on our walk today at Lake Johnson. He ended up getting to my house around 10:30am and needless to say we didn’t have time to go read at a coffee shop so we just sat on the couch for a few minutes and chatted. At one point he looked at me and said, “You know Rebecca, I think I’ve said this to you before, but there will never be another February 24th, 2008 again. There will never be another day like today. We need to remember to make the most of every day.” I agreed and thought nothing of the comment other than that.
So after church we said goodbye to our friends and told them we were off to hike (Rebecca refers to this as hiking, I refer to it as walking) Lake J on the somewhat chilly day….
Well we started our walk through the newly discovered trail at Lake J and made it to the mini waterfalls and sat down for a quick lunch. I say quick because by the time we got there it was about 1:45 and Seth had told me earlier that he was playing tennis with Mark Carrington at 3….so we needed to hustle. As we were ending our lunch Seth reminded me that he had a surprise dessert for me when we got to our bench. So we hiked the rest of the way to the bench and sat down to rest for a bit. Seth proceeded to tell me to close my eyes and he would give me my surprise. When I opened my eyes he had a bag of dark chocolate lindor balls for me….MY FAVORITE! I thought to myself, "Man, this is a good day!" I immediately opened the bag and was about to eat one when he put his arm around me, pulled me close and looked me straight in the eyes to tell me how much he loved me! This came as quite a shock since he had not told me that since we began dating again! Well, that just about made my day, week, month and past 9 months! I told him I was so happy he said that because I had felt the same way and wanted to say that for some time. I was so satisfied at that moment I could not have remotely imagined what was coming next!!!
Before I could get over the shock of hearing "I love you", Seth began to tell me he had he had another surprise for me and pulled a white box out from the side of him, and got down on one knee and said, “Will you marry me?” I had ABSOLUTELY no hint of a small clue this was coming today and was so shocked I don’t know that I said very much! All I could think to say was, “Oooh my gosh! Oooh my gosh….!” He eventually asked me what my answer was and I of course said YES! And we hugged and kissed each other for the first time as an engaged couple:) I was still in major shock when we sat down, and was beginning to try and grasp what had just happened when he told me again that he had another surprise for me. He turned and walked toward the lake and uncovered a red bucket and a large thermos and proceeded to pour out hot water from the thermos into the bucket. He got down on one knee and as he was taking off my socks and shoes began to tell me how he wanted to serve me for the rest of my life. He started to wash my feet and tell me that although he was not a perfect man, he wanted to show me that his desire was to serve me forever, just as Jesus came to serve us. Wow! I don’t even know what I said….I think at this point I just looked up into the sky and was thanking God for this wonderful man he brought me!

After he put on my socks and shoes he sat down and we talked for a few minutes, before getting up to finish our walk. As we were walking down the path I noticed a man and his dog passing us and I said to him, “Do you know this man just asked me to marry him?” He told us congratulations and that he got a good one, or something to that effect. Personally, I think I’m the one who got a good oneJ:)
So we continued to walk down the path and a million and one questions began flowing from my mouth…."When did you ask my mom? Does Natalie know? Who else knows? When did you tell them? Do they know it was today?"... the list goes on and on. Seth kept saying, “Rebecca, just relax and enjoy the moment, the time right now! For like the 5th time he told me that he had a surprise for me and asked me to close my eyes. I did and he guided me by the hand down the path a bit and then we stopped and he said I could open my eyes. When I did my family and his family were off to the side at some benches waiting for us! Natalie came running to me and gave me a great big hug and could not stop screaming!! We all embraced and talked for a few minutes before Seth gathered us all together and prayed for us. It was such a wonderful time and I still was in such shock I couldn’t believe this was happening!
We then began to finish the walk back toward our cars, with all of our family. As we crossed the bridge and came near the parking lot I noticed to the left of me a shelter on the hill with lots of people. I mentioned to everyone that I wanted to go up to the shelter and tell everyone I was engaged! Seth laughed and told me to go up there and see who it was….and as we did, I began to recognize people…a lot of people!!! Friends, tons of friends! Little had I known (which seems to be the theme of the day) that Seth had orchestrated for all, and I mean all, of my nearest and dearest friends to come and celebrate with us! He invited Vineyard people, bible study girls, Puffins, family members, and friends of ours!!! There were over 50 people there waiting and holding signs and shouting, “HIP HIP HOORAY!” as we walked up!
I was again, so shocked that I began shaking as I went to say hi to everyone! I just couldn’t believe everyone showed up and especially that the Taylors, Lori, and Krystal came from out of town just to see me for about an hour! God truly has blessed me with wonderful friends, and the most wonderful fiancĂ©e in the whole world!

All, in all, it was the most special day of my life…and will be until we are married!
I am still in shock but wanted to write down most of my thoughts so I wouldn’t forget them!

That was an large excerpt from what I wrote down on the night of February 24th. I wanted to make sure I wrote down all I felt and remembered, because there were quite a few details as you can see!

And that's the story of our new beginning...
