Spring Sports

Seth's spring sports include a little tennis with the KDI league, basketball with the Silverhawks, and the occasional golf game. Seth exercises enough for the both of us...and I just capture it on camera:)

Sedona, Arizona...aka HONEYMOON!!

Eh, they're a little late in posting, but here are some pictures from our honeymoon in Sedona, Arizona!

"Leavin', on a jet plane..."

We flew into Phoenix and stayed at the Hyatt Place on Saturday night, before getting up and driving to Sedona on Sunday...

As you can tell from Seth's review from below, he was very impressed wtih the Hyatt Place - we give it 2 Thumbs Up!

Comin' home! Both my sister and I were born in Phoenix so it was neat that I got to show Seth around my original hometown:)

Best burritos in the south (or at least on the way to Sedona!) -Ron's Market. It's funny, now that I think about it, we ate at Ron's Barn for our wedding rehearsal dinner and that was fabulous as well...there must be something about Ron...what a guy:)

Driving into Sedona...you can see the red rock in the background. Sedona is called 'Red Rock Country' and I'm sure you'll see why in the pictures to follow...

Sad to say, our first homecooked meal was mac 'n cheese and hot dogs:) Oh well, gotta start somewhere!

This was our bungalo that we stayed in at Sedona Pines Resort. This timeshare was a wedding gift to us from the Faircloths, whose girls I've watched since they were babies and who were also in our wedding...this was such a blessing!!

What's wrong with this picture?

I guess Seth hadn't ever worn a ring of any type on his finger because he was definitely not used to it being on his left hand. He kept taking it off, saying his finger was swelling... Rest assured the ring has loosened a bit and he can now wear it 24/7:)

A little putt putt was the perfect break from papers Seth had to finish on our honeymoon...we weren't too happy about that, but he knocked them out in the first 2 days!

Our first hike in Sedona was on Airport Loop, and it was gorgeous. Probably my favorite hike in all of Sedona.

The sunset and moonrise were amazing to see on our hike! Pictures don't even come close to the beauty of it all...

God is amazing in how he created the earth!

Here, we're standing on Submarine Rock, which you can't tell from this picture, but from a distance you can definitely see it. We were driven to the top of this rock by our Pink Jeep tour guide. We got to take this tour for free after we attended a timeshare presentation. And no, we didn't buy a timeshare, although they were having some good deals!

Our tour guide told us if we fell on this plant it could impale us...nice thought on our honeymoon.

Eagle Rock

You can't really tell, but we're at a crazy angle going down some mountain in our Pink Jeep. I remember saying at one point "My mom would never let me do this!" To that the jeep guide said, that's why you're married now:)

Just a light snack for our hike on Long Canyon Trail...

Unfortunately we never found the end of the trail...it just kept going and going and going...

Signing in so if you get lost they know you're at least on the trail somewhere...

Our friends Brian and Debbie Lowther went to Sedona on their honeymoon as well and had a leftover coupon for an Italian restaurant called The Hideaway that they let us have. The food was delicious and the view was amazing. You can't really see in this picture but we're on the side of a mountain...

We ate at the Haunted Hamburger for lunch...the burgers were huge but we were starving so it was perfect!

Really, even Wendy's burgers are too big for my mouth, but this was was ginormous!

The town of Jerome...I think the population is about 400 today....

One thing I remember most about living in Arizona was the hot air balloon race we went to every year. I think we had to get up about 4am in the morning to drive out to the site. There were tons of hot air balloons being blown up and you would watch them all being blown up and lifted off the ground as the fire blew. We sure did see quite a few on our honeymoon and they always brought a smile to my face:)

Off to the Grand Canyon for the day!

We decided to hike Bright Angel Trail because it wasn't too far into the canyon. I was a bit nervous about getting dehydrated or having heat exhaustion, or else being too tired to walk back up to the top! We ended up hiking about 1.5 miles into the canyon and then back up to the top and we both survived! Seth wants to hike to the bottom sometime and camp out...we'll see how that goes!

They have mules you can ride into the canyon on...they were looking very tempting as we were on the hike back up!

I spotted this tarantula on our hike back up. It was actually quite exciting seeing as we hadn't spotted much wildlife in Arizona.

I had to take a picture of these 2 old ladies...they were so cute and dressed in their little J-Lo outfits, hiking back up the canyon. They had stopped to take a rest and were on the phone with their husbands and family. They were hilarious talking about how it was harder walking back up than it was going down. Amen to that! But in all seriousness, kudos to the old ladies for such an adventerous hike!

This is something else I always remember from the Grand Canyon - feeding the squirrels. Of course it's illegal, but you can tell by how fat they are that no one heeds these rules:)

For dinner Seth took me to El Tovar - the famous restauraunt on the top of the Grand Canyon. We decided to go there only after we had finished our hike and were extremely hungry, so we were covered in dust and sweat. But nevertheless they treated us like gold...

I think after that meal we could have both fallen asleep right under our table, but instead we started the treck back to Sedona.

The food was delicious and hit just the spot!

We ended up not finishing this trail either because it got too dark. The maps were not very accurate we found - the trails were always longer than we were led to believe:)

This was the house I grew up in, on West Morrow Drive. Seth and I drove by on the way to the airport before we left to come home...for the first time as a married couple!!
